Gal Costa (born Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos, 1945–2022) was one of Brazil’s most influential singers and a central figure of the Tropicália movement. Known for her extraordinary vocal range and emotional versatility, she moved effortlessly between MPB, bossa nova, psychedelia, samba, and avant‑garde pop.
