Hespèrion XXI is the latest incarnation of Hespèrion XX, an international early music ensemble founded in Switzerland in 1974 by Catalan musical director Jordi Savall (bowed strings), with Montserrat Figueras (soprano), Lorenzo Alpert (flute, percussion), and Hopkinson Smith (plucked strings).
